Male Hair Transplant option

There are two main types of hair transplants for men:

  •  Follicular unit transplant (FUT)

  •  Follicular unit fraction (FUE)

FUT is also known as 'strip surgery' and involves harvesting a small patch of skin that the surgeon divides into small units. After that, they place the units in incisions at the recipient location, before closing the wound.

And, in FUE, individual hair follicles are transplanted using a small punch tool. This surgery is more intensive, less invasive and painful for patients. But it requires downtime and there is no risk of stains.

First, the surgeon cleans your scalp and injects the medicine to numb the back of your head. Your doctor will choose either follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) or follicular unit extraction (FUE) for your hair transplant procedure.

With FUSS, the surgeon removes a 6-10 inch strip of skin from the back of your head. They set it aside and lock the skull. After that, the entire area is covered by the remaining hair around it.

Next, the surgeon's team divides the removed skull strip into 500 to 2,000 smaller grafts, each with individual hairs or just a few strands. The number and type of grafts you receive depends on your hair type, quality, color and the size of the area where you are getting implants.

If you do not get the FUE procedure, the surgeon's team will cut off the back of your skull. Then, they will remove your pores. The area is filled with small dots, so they will cover your existing hair.

After that, the surgeon cleans and numbs the area, then a hole or slit is made with a scalpel or needle, and delicately places each graft into one of the perforations. The surgeon may have to enlist the help of other team members to place the grafts.
