Chemical Peels in India

Chemical peels are a cosmetic treatment that is applied to the face, hands and neck to improve the feel and appearance of the skin. The Best Chemical Peel in India is used for several reasons like sun damage, acne, scars, wrinkles and fine lines, hyperpigmentation, melasma and uneven skin tone.

What are different types of chemical peel treatments in India?

Mainly, there are three different types of chemical peels:

  • Medium Peels: These are effective for removing damaged skin cells. These use trichloroacetic or glycolic acid to reach the middle and outer layer of the skin.

  • Superficial Peels: This penetrates the outer layer of the skin by gently exfoliating them. Mild acids like alpha-hydroxy acids are used in this type of peels.

  • These peels use phenol or trichloroacetic acid that fully penetrates the middle layer of the skin which removes damaged skin cells.

How is chemical peel done?

These are generally done in an outpatient surgical facility. The area of the face where the chemical peel is to be undertaken is numbed using regional anaesthesia. The procedure for different types of chemical peel includes:

  • Light Peel: A cotton ball or sponge or gauge is used to apply a chemical solution to the affected area. It is left for some time and skin starts to whiten in that area. There might be a slight stinging sensation but once done, the chemical solution is removed with a neutralizing solution.

  • Medium Peel: The surgeon uses a special sponge, gauge or cotton tip applicator to apply the chemical solution over the face. The chemical solution contains glycol acid or trichloroacetic acid. The ski starts to whiten and after that, the doctor applies cool compresses over the skin. The stinging or burning sensation may last up to the next 20 minutes. After that, you can see the results.

  • Deep Peel: You would be sedated and the doctor uses a special cotton-tipped applicator to apply phenol on the skin. The skin turns grey or white. It is done in different portions to limit skin exposure to the acid.

Recovery from chemical peels

The recovery time depends on the type of chemical peel you received. During light peels, the recovery time is four to seven days. In medium peel, the recovery time is five to seven days with initially swelling in the skin before revealing the new skin. And in deep peels, the recovery takes about two weeks with redness and cysts lasting for some time.

It is recommended to follow the doctor’s instructions during recovery time. Also, avoid going to sunlight until you heal completely.
