Hair transplant: Time, Cost and Side Effects

Two out of every three human beings have to face the problem of hair loss by the age of 35 and by the age of 50, about 85 percent of the hair has become quite thin.

Hair transplant is one of those options. In the process, healthy hair is taken from one part of the head and it is transplanted to thin areas.

Like any cosmetic surgical procedure, it can also be expensive depending on the amount of hair to be transplanted and various other factors.

Types of hair transplant

Hair transplant surgery has improved more than before. Two types are now generally accepted: Follicular Unit Transaction technique (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction technique (FUE).

In FUT, a strip of healthy hair is harvested from a donor area on the patient's head, usually near the back where less attention is often paid. From this donor strip hair are transacted and implanted to area, where there is lesser hair. But one of the main drawbacks of FUT surgery is that it leaves scars and there is a bit longer down time.

FUE is more developed in hair restoration surgery. It consists of extracting singular follicular units - or single hair Grafts and transplanting them to a new area. To do this, the surgeon uses very small micro-punches to remove hair from the scalp, taking care of minimal scarring. Presumably, FUE takes longer than FUT and often proves to be best suited for small and medium  areas of treatment.

How Hair Transplants Work

FUT and FUE hair transplant surgeries are performed in an outpatient setting. Local anesthesia is usually given to numb the patient's Scalp, but patient will remain awake during surgery. Procedures can take anywhere from four to eight hours, and some transplants where more than 5000 grafts are needed, it may take 2 sittings.

Financial cost of hair transplant surgery
